Modern Office

Executive /

Senior Manager

A hybrid servant-transformational-coaching leader is what best describes my leadership and management style.  Every company, department, and team is just like every person; they have their own unique identity with their own strengths and weaknesses.  I have been put in many situations requiring the use of every leadership and management style based on the situation, organization or team.  I excel in pressure situations and also enjoy the challenge of making high-performing, highly successful organizations better.  My successes are based on serving my teams by looking into the future to remove roadblocks enabling the average and high-performing teams the freedom to strive to greater heights. Coincidentally, this frees up time to coach the average teams and put in the appropriate amount of time to aid underperforming teams transitioning into success stories.  The following are examples of my leadership and management strengths:

- Directed daily operations from the executive directorate level down to the first line supervisor ranging from 8 to 3,000 personnel, effectively analyze workflow, establish priorities, develop standards, and set realistic deadlines resulting in fully capable team readiness

- Led teams significantly understaffed with limited resources to 100% success in a dynamic environment from small projects to highly-sensitive programs requiring Congressional and Presidential briefings

- As Director, met with stakeholders, department heads, managers, supervisors, vendors, and others, to solicit cooperation and resolve rapidly evolving problems resulting in continued safe and cost-efficient operation

- Single-handedly designed and implemented a full-spectrum development program taking the lowest performing group to the highest performing group in a 13 state region in 2.5 years

- Inspires greatness from subordinates as all of his civilian employees have promoted to GS-13 & higher, 95% of all junior SONAR technician sailors have promoted to Chief & higher, and 47% undesignated junior sailors have become Naval Officers

- Overhauled an entire company’s cross-functional contractual obligations with co-dependencies to 4 other companies resulting in a 47% manning reduction allowing for redistribution of personnel which increased production160%

- Evaluated requirements to create innovative solutions to improve production with reduced manning as evident with a 233% increased production while operating at 67% manning reduction

- Managed and coordinated over 100 high-level, multi-company evolutions costing an estimated $10 million ensuring teams were 100% certified and prepared

- Managed the coordination and overall integration of technical activities in engineering projects for a $150 million program and its support equipment resulting in fully operational assets ahead of schedule

Portfolio / Program Management

Program and Project Management is not limited to one style.  A concerted effort must be taken to each management approach though using a hybrid of management styles to create the most cost effective and highest quality products.  Even when placed in Waterfall projects, I find ways to influence the low-waste, high-profit pattern that is truly the Agile approach.

     - Expert in Lean methodologies Agile, Scrum, Kanban, Scrumban, Hybrid, and  Scrum of Scrum (Certified Scrum Master)

     - Experience in Lean methodologies Agile Unified Process (AUP), Feature Driven Development (FDD), Dynamic Systems Development Method (DSDM), Extreme Programing (XP), and Crystal (Clear through Sapphire)

In addition to the overall Portfolio, Program and Project Management roles, I have overseen multiple layers of the process that supported various Fleets, bases, and commands.  Those roles have been Contracting Officer, Procurement Officer, Logistics Officer, National Controller, Marketing Director, Risk Management & Mitigation Director, Damage Assessment Management Director, Test Director, Project Steering Committee member, and Quality Assurance Director.

These are summaries of positions I have held:

- Portfolio Manager to over 80 programs and over 180 projects worth an estimated $1.3 billion

 - IT Transformation Senior Program Manager to several organizations, led multiple hardware and software teams across many organizations and multiple networks in the transformation from dated programs of record to various Cloud solutions, COTS systems, and CRM/SaaS tools such as Salesforce, Moodle, SAP Business Objects, and Oracle

  - Senior Program Manager for 5 programs ranging from multi-platform sensors to autonomous systems coordinating 42 part-time personnel across 17 projects in support of 217 mission-critical jobs

     - Senior Project Manager to over a dozen programs taking several from concept to production where I was consistently below budget and ahead of schedule

     - Scrum Master to 12 teams enabling 25 team members tackling over 40 thousand backlog requirements, and Executive MetaScrum for 13 multimillion dollar products ensuring 100% mission readiness and effectiveness

     - Product Owner/Stakeholder to over 30 products ensuring backlogs were properly and effectively addressed with no operational impact

     - Project Management Office lead, taking industry through an industry-wide shift from Waterfall, Scrum, Agile, eXtreme Programming… to the hybrid Agile Unified Process (AUP) using a combination of both the Scrumban method and the Feature Driven Development (FDD) for programs and projects
